RECENT MAYORALTY ELECTIONS
THE BOSS AND THE VOTE: Case Study in City Politics
Dr. Bruner, a Lecturer on Social Psychology and Research Associate in the Laboratory of Social Relations at Harvard, Mr. Korchin, a Teaching Fellow at that University, conducted a pre-election study of Boston's recent mayoralty contest. From it emerged this significant article on why Boston voters elected a "Boss" with a notoriously questionable record, then under indictment for using the mails to defraud. Among other new insights, it shows that, given certain conditions, assumed ability to get things done looms larger in the voter's mind than personal or public morals.
