The First Editor Looks Back
Principal mover behind the foundation of the Quarterly, and its first managing editor, was Harwood L. Childs, now Professor of Politics at Princeton University. In this article he recalls some of the problems of establishing a new journal, describes the principal objectives of the founders, and considers briefly the degree to which these objectives have been attained. He also throws light on the reciprocal process by which a scholarly journal influences the direction of research and research influences the content of a journal
